ItsMyMarket.com

05/22/2007

In this day when the internet has all but replaced the local paper, here’s an idea who’s time has definitely come. ItsMymarket.com offers free classified ads for your local area (UK only). It also includes local weather and movie listings, as well as links to blogs and a dating service. Unfortunately for me, they only serve the UK at this time, and that’s just sad. I’m hopeful that they will expand to the US, and since the site is new and still growing, it’s possible! Right now, I have to go to 5 different sites to find all my local information, and I would really like a centralized site like this for my area.

Tusker Trails

Here is a very neat vacation idea. I love to travel and see new places, meet new people, taste new foods. Tusker Trails specializes in such exotic vacations as Kilimanjaro climbing, guided tours of Tanzania and East Africa safaris. Tusker Trails was founded by Eddie Frank 30 years ago, and has a top-notch crew to help you have the adventure of a lifetime. Tusker’s guides are medically trained for high-altitude response, so you can rest assured that you are in good hands. The climber to guide ratio is generally 5 to 1, but sometimes as low as 2 to 1. I’d love to go on one of these tours, just for the photo opportunities. And I am sure Eddie would understand that, because he was a professional photographer before he founded Tusker Trails.

Condo Hotel Marketplace

05/14/2007

This site is neat because it allows you to compare vacation rentals all over the world. Select your country and state (if applicable) and start planning your ultimate va-kay. You can also buy a place, if you are ready to become a member of the jet-set. For the more budget constrained (like me), it’s just a cool place to start thinking about where you would go if you could.

A Neat Vacation

04/25/2007

Usually when you travel there are a million and one things to keep in mind, but I found a neat travel thing to tell you about today, and it’s an all inclusive resort in The Caribbean. This website offers discounts on travel, and they take care of all the details for you! No worrying about tips, meals, entertainment or any of that. It’s in there, just like the famous spaghetti sauce.

The pictures are compelling and there are a variety of vacations to meet your travel plans. If you are ready to get away, this is a very neat way to do it!

Luxury Homes

04/06/2007

Ok, two posts today. The next neat thing is Dream Homes magazine. There are several editions of this magazine, including a couple of state versions, and some for foreign countries all featuring luxury homes. When you get to this website, scroll down a bit and look for the link labeled “Mega Dream Homes”. Not for the faint of heart, these home are priced at 10Million plus. Yes, I said Million. With an M. Looking is free, however, and you will find some wonderful factoids about these spendy homes under “mega lifestyles” in the upper right menu.

Schmap

03/07/2007

The Schmap Player is a small and easy-to-use piece of freeware. Use the guides (also free) to explore and go on virtual tours. The Schmap – Dynamic Travel Guides include photos of cities around the globe. You can also use them to find places to eat or stay and things to do. I have to tell you that it did cause a bit of a lag on my computer, but it was also worth it.

Unusual Hotels

02/27/2007

From underwater to high in a tree,
There are plenty of weird hotels to see.
Yes, I made that up, LOL!

You will enjoy this site that describes Unusual Hotels of the World. You can navigate by icon or by interactive map. If you don’t like those options, you can look in the left sidebar and find them by “wow ratings”. Do check out the underground/caves category for a start.

Photos of Greece

02/23/2007

Here is a site with many photos. So many in fact, that I almost put it on my photography blog. Because the site also includes a good amount of information about the culture, people, flora and fauna, I have elected to put it here instead. Whether you just want eye-candy, or want to learn something about Greece, this is a neat place to start.

Maps

02/19/2007

There are maps on this site from the earliest time to the present. These would be useful for teaching as well as personal study. With such an extensive variety, it would be easy to show the changes in areas over time (think colonies of the US, etc). You could also mark up the plainer maps in conjunction with history studies.

Each time segment has a clickable index of places, a handy feature for finding the specific area you wish to study.

Celtic Hills

02/15/2007

Here at SixNeatThings, we love all things Celtic. We like the stories, we like the music, we like the festivals, we just have an affinity for the Celtic. We have even been known to embellish our hand knitted items with Celtic Knots. I was excited to see a site this morning called Celtic Hills. They have a neat collection of Celtic things including many versions of the Celtic cross. Check out the Irish Blessing Cross at the bottom of the page.

My the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields and, until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand

This has always been one of may favorite blessings, and it is today’s neat thing.

DisneyWorld

02/09/2007

How can you have a blog called SixNeatThings, and never mention every kids fantasy? I’m talking about Disneyworld, of course. Getting an Orlando vacation rental will allow you to take advantage of a multiple day pass to a variety of theme parks, and surely every member of the family will find at least one neat thing among all the offerings. Mouse ear hat is obligatory, formal attire definitely not. Go in the the off season, it’s much more fun!

Eyewitness to History

01/02/2007

I have referenced this site briefly before, but it deserves quite a bit more than the sentence I gave it. Eyewitness to History is broken down by eras, and within each era are links to first-hand accounts of major events. The execution of Mary Queen of Scots is covered in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, as is the murder of Thomas Becket. As a history lover, this site is destined to become a valued resource in my teaching.
